Book Review

I have personally worked with an Inclusion class while I took on a permanent substitute teacher position at a Middle School in Tuscaloosa. The kids were very rowdy and did not like to do much work. As I came into the class and became comfortable with being the teacher I was able to calm the students down and got them involved with the lesson. The students were some that had behavioral problems but most of them were in the class because they performed low on their test and in class. With my other classes I was able to do a complete lesson and start the next one during class, but with this group I had to take my time and go over the lesson with them. I would take us 2 days to normally go over a lesson. I also had in this class a few students that were Hispanic and that could not really understand what I was saying, so I had to work with them on a one on one basis so that they could get the lesson. A lot of my student that were in this class could not read some of the words and did not understand what the words meant. I was able with my other students to go over the Science lesson and give them some work to do out of the book and workbook and they could do that with no problem, but the inclusion class could not do that. I also had an advance class that I was able to over 2 full lessons with them in one day. When it was test time for my inclusion class, I gave them the test a day ahead of everybody else with one correct answer and one wrong answer for them to look the right answer up in the book and use that as their study guide. With my other classes I was just able to tell those that we are having a test and that you need to study what we just finish going over. It would take my inclusion class about two days to finish the test, and times I would let them pull out their study guide and use that on the test. Some would still not pass the test after that.  Working with students with different backgrounds and students with disabilities is a challenge to some teacher but not to others. I think that I was one of those teachers that at first it was a challenge to me but after about two weeks I was able to handle them with no problems. Having students that were Hispanic was a big challenge to me but I was able to overcome it, because we worked together as a team and was able to get through the school year.

Youtube Video

http://youtu.be/bg0OVOo-PAw

This would be a great attention getter for starting a lesson on learning your multiplication facts. This video is very attractive. It has color, and sound that will grab and keep the students attention. The reason I picked this video is because I think that the kids will like learning their times tables if it fun and this will be fun to them making them want to either do one themselves or watch some more.

Schools using Socail Media

Well I am not a teacher yet, I do a lot of subbing in Tuscaloosa. The one school that I am at most of the time is Eastwood Middle School.

I do think that the school should use social media to connect with the parents and the students. A lot of the students do have a facebook page as well as a twitter page. On facebook the school could set up a page and use it as a means of contact between the teachers, administrators, parents, and students. Not only do the kids have a page but a lot of parents have facebook pages. You have more and more parents that say well the papers that you sent home I never got it or my child did not tell me that. Well if they had the page set up on facebook or twitter they could put a message on the pages telling the parents that they are sending something home with the students or that the kids should come home and tell them whatever the message is. So I am a fan of using Social Media at the schools.

A Community I LOVE

Well there are actually two communities that I love and they both are my church communities.

The first one will be my home church. I have been going to First Baptist Church in Northport, Al since I was a baby. The people at this church are very nice and will do just about anything for the church members. A lot of us at the church are related but those that are not related to someone in the church is welcomed into everyone family. It is more like we are all one BIG FAMILY!!!! We have fun together and just love being around each other.

The other community I love is my church family in Montgomery, AL. While I was attending Alabama State University I started attending Hutchinson Missionary Baptist Church. From the first time that I went to that church I felt welcomed and loved. The members and the pastors of that church are some of the nicest people that I had ever met. Once the members found out that I was a college student and was not from Montgomery, they took me in as family. If I ever need anything while I was down there all I had to do was call someone. I gained so many sisters and brothers that I just LOVED it. I felt as if I was at home, after my first visit I never went to another church that was my church while I was down there and even now that I am back home. I love the pastors and members of this church. When my family came to visit they made them feel welcomed as well.

Reasons to know Math

Math is a subject that most people do not like or like on a need to basis, but me I love math. It was my favorite subject while in school that is why I am pursuing a degree in teaching math.

A list of why you should know math:

1. Teaches you how to tell time
2. Teaches you how to add, subtract, multiply, divide
3. Helps you keep up with your banking
4. Helps you with other daily needs that you may not even know that it helps you out with

Ask yourself a question and answer it

Question: What do you want out of life?
Answer:
What I want out of life is to be happy and to have happy positive people in my life. Where I am right now in my life is good but I want it to be excellent. My plans are to graduate from UWA and start my career. Once I am teaching for a few years I plan to go back and get my administration degree so that I can start that process of opening my own school. What I also want out of life is to start my own clothing store and to continue and grow my tax business. What I also want out of life is to get married and grow old with him and watch our children grow and have kids. I want someone to make me happy and I make them happy.
